安熙龙（Robert B. Oxnam），1942年生，1969年于耶鲁大学取得博士学位后任教于康涅狄格州三一学院。1975年加入美国亚洲协会（Asia Society，1981年至1992年担任主席。1990年代先后于哥伦比亚大学及威廉姆斯学院执教。早年师从 史景迁（Jonathan D. Spence）研习清史，后致力于促进中美文化交流，关注国际关系与外交政策。除本书外，另有论著涉及当代中美关系，并创作了两部中国题材的历史小说《朱砂》（Cinnabar: A Novel Of China）与《明》（Ming: A Novel of Seventeenth-Century China）。
